ADHD Assessment for Adults

What is ADHD?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that begins in childhood and can persist into adulthood.

ADHD can show itself, among other things, through difficulties with attention and concentration, inner restlessness, impulsivity, and organising and structuring everyday life. How strongly the symptoms appear varies greatly from person to person. Hyperactivity or visible restlessness are not always in the foreground.

Many people affected experience the associated difficulties as a burden, for example at work, in relationships or in coping with everyday demands.

A careful assessment can help you understand your own difficulties better and clarify possible next steps.

How does the ADHD assessment work?

The ADHD assessment usually comprises 3 to 5 sessions of 50 minutes. The exact procedure and scope may vary depending on the individual question and diagnostic need.

  1. Initial consultation (psychotherapeutic consultation)

The assessment begins with a psychotherapeutic consultation. In this first conversation your current symptoms and the strain associated with them are assessed for the first time. Important information about your history is already gathered, the development of your symptoms is considered, and possible further problem areas, accompanying symptoms and psychological strain are taken into account.

On this basis, the further diagnostic procedure is discussed. Additional appointments may be needed for a more detailed history.

  2. Diagnostic assessment

Standardised questionnaires and diagnostic interviews are used for further diagnostic clarification.

Since ADHD must already have begun in childhood, the development of the symptoms across your life history is also taken into account. Earlier school reports and assessments by others, for example parents, partners or other people close to you, can also be helpful.

Another important part is differential diagnosis, which examines whether other mental illnesses or stress factors could explain the symptoms or be present in addition.

  3. Concluding feedback session

At the end, the diagnostic results are discussed and put into context together. You receive a diagnostic assessment and, where appropriate, recommendations for further treatment options and next steps.

Results and further treatment options

Please note that carrying out an ADHD assessment does not automatically mean taking up psychotherapy afterwards.

Depending on the diagnostic result and your individual treatment needs, additional psychiatric care may be advisable. Should medication be considered, a corresponding medical or psychiatric consultation is required. Medication is not prescribed in my practice.

Fees and cost coverage

The ADHD assessment in my private practice is intended for privately insured patients and self-paying clients. Billing through statutory health insurance is not possible in my practice.

Billing follows the German Scale of Fees for Physicians (GOÄ) or the Scale of Fees for Psychotherapists (GOP). The total costs depend on the individual scope of the assessment and, as a rough guide, amount to approximately €400 to €600.

Privately insured patients are asked to check independently with their insurer in advance about the individual reimbursement terms and the extent of cost coverage. Costs not reimbursed are to be borne by you.
